YM Tengku Shanaz Aziz began her working career in the PR industry in Malaysia, before leaving the country to take up a post with Al Murjan International, a prestigious family-owned commercial bank in Jeddah. As their Business Development Manager, she had the opportunity to gain valuable experience working in the Middle East, especially in her dealings with the royal houses of the Emirates, Saudis and Jordanians. She returned to London in 2001, where she joined Home House Ltd, an elite private members club managed by Brian Clivaz, as the club’s Business Development Executive for Overseas Memberships. Once again, her engaging personality and professionalism ensured her success in the recruiting and management of the club’s celebrity clientele. Upon her return to Malaysia, YM Tengku Shanaz was able to put to good use her years of experience from working abroad and the valuable contacts gained, when she teamed up with some foreign partners to successfully bid for an engineering project with the government of Malaysia through Sri Jentayu Sdn Bhd. Managing the project took another three years of hard work, which also involved more traveling, especially to Europe. In recent years, YM Tengku Shanaz has utilized lessons gained from her travels to hone her skills as an entrepreneur. With her sharp eye for fashion and good instincts for trends, she has since introduced a line of clothes in Malaysia under the popular Tashia London label, and started a company called My Frost Sdn Bhd, which targets the niche market for crystallizing mobile phones and other personal gadgets.YM Tengku Shanaz is the grand-daughter of Almarhum Sultan Sir Abu Bakar, Pahang. Although raised in the palace, she very early on displayed her independent streak and started working life as soon as she completed her Diploma in PR & Marketing. Her hobbies include horse riding, scuba diving, painting, reading collecting antiques and cooking. During her stint in the Middle East, she did regular volunteer work with a disabled children’s school in Dubai, and was involved in various art-based charity projects. She believes passionately in furthering women’s rights - especially those of single and divorced Muslim women – and feels that Malaysian Muslim women are in many ways less well protected than their Middle Eastern counterparts, especially in matters of financial security. This has spurred her in her efforts to promote unity and improvement in the lives of Muslim women in Malaysia.
